Joint Pain And Its Remedies

When the ends of two or more bones are connected with the help of thick bands of tissue called ligaments, this is known as joint. Eg leg bone knee forms, known as the shin or tibia and the femur is known as the thigh.

Usually people at certain age or for some people that age, pain in the joints occur. Although there are variants of the causes of joint pain, but one of the most common cause is arthritis. Some of the common forms of arthritis, resulting in pain in the joints -

Osteoarthritis - It is also known as degenerative arthritis. This condition is also known as carrying out and involves the breakdown of cartilage in the joints. After wearing out the cartilage of the bones rub against each other and result in pain and stiffness.


Rheumatoid Arthritis - usually affects women and can affect each and every organ of the body. There is a swelling and inflammation in the joint.

 

Post-traumatic Arthritis - This condition is caused from an injury to the articular cartilage that do not heal properly.

Avascular necrosis - In this condition the bone is deprived of normal blood flow. The lack of proper nutrition from the blood, gradually weakens the bone structure and the collapse and damaged cartilage.

Before going for treatment of joint pain, proper diagnosis is essential. Part of the orthopedic evaluation -

1. A thorough medical history
2. A physical examination
3. X-rays
4. Additional tests as necessary

Based on the orthopedic evaluation, treatment options include

1. Medications
2. Physiotherapy
3. Joint Fluid Supplements
4. Joint Replacement

Medication - For the treatment of joint pain and stiffness of arthritis, many different medications. The most commonly prescribed drugs are the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs. It can be taken for a long term period to reduce the swelling and pain caused by arthritis.

Physiotherapy - Physiotherapy is must for the patient who suffers from the problem of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It includes various exercises to increase muscle strength and maintaining the function help. It also contains the daily walk, using a cane or other assistive device.

Joint Fluid Supplements - "joint grease" injections are prescribed to patients who no improvement to the previous treatments.

Total Joint Replacement: Patients suffering from severe arthritis conditions to move for a total joint replacement. It is the last treatment option for pain in the joints.
